Train Station Constructed in 1871, the Cardigan "way" or "crossing" station would have been a very busy place in it's heyday. Consiting of a waiting room, a ticket office, and a freight shed, the station was a hub for local farmers and townspeople. Livestock and produce would have been shipped out by train to larger markets, while others would be waiting for the regular mail deliveries. Telegraphs were sent and received, freight such as lime for the fields would be shipped in, and the train provided the easiest way to travel to the capital of Charlottetown. However, during the late 1940s, as improvements were made to roads, the mail stopped being delivered by train, and fewer people used it for travel. Passenger services were dropped in 1970, one hundred years after being built. Eventually the station was cut away from it's freight shed and moved across the road, where it now serves as the Cardigan Craft Centre.
